A new year

Our first year and looking forward to lots more!

Hello CECC Supporters and Colleagues!

As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we accomplished together in 2024 and share our exciting plans for the year ahead.

This past year marked our first year as an organization, and what a remarkable year it has been. CECC continued to grow as a leader in the energy space in Canada. We expanded our network, hosted our first AGM, and brought together community energy leaders at the Energy Forum in Halifax. We also secured funding to sustain our work over the next three years—an incredible milestone for such a young organization.

Our work gained recognition on multiple fronts in 2024. CECC was featured in CBC News, highlighting the role of solar co-operatives in Canada’s energy transition. Additionally, we released academic research that showcases the state of renewable energy cooperatives in Canada. These achievements demonstrate the value of our collaborative approach and the opportunities we bring to the energy transition.

Looking ahead, 2025 will be about building on this momentum:

  • Growing and strengthening our network and membership through events, workshops, and partnerships

  • Fostering the establishment of regional hubs to enhance collaboration and local engagement

  • Advancing collaborative research with leading academic institutions to drive innovation and impact

  • Supporting and advocating for policy changes that empower community energy organizations at the provincial and national levels.

There will be many ways to engage with CECC in 2025, from events, research, committee participation, and advocacy efforts. We’re also excited to announce that our next AGM and Energy Forum will take place this summer in Victoria. It will be an incredible opportunity to connect, share ideas, and shape the future of community energy in Canada. Stay tuned for more details!

To support this growing vision, we’ll be hiring new staff early in the new year—keep an eye out for job postings soon.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication and collaboration of our incredible colleagues, members, partners, and the CECC board. Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in our mission. Together, we can continue to lead Canada’s energy transition in a way that is equitable, sustainable, and community-centered.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to a year of bold action and meaningful progress!

Yours in cooperation,
