From Ideas to Impact: Prairie Community Solar

Research insights, proven models, and practical pathways for Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Community Energy Cooperative Canada (CECC) and the Community Energy Association (CEA) invite co-ops, solar installers, municipalities, First Nations, utilities, and community partners to a practical, solutions-focused conversation on advancing solar energy across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

This interactive, 90-minute webinar will share CEA’s latest research on the barriers and opportunities to solar deployment in the Prairie provinces, and will explore the current landscape of community solar in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

This session will cover:

  • Key findings from CEA’s research on solar barriers and opportunities in Manitoba and Saskatchewan 
  • Community-led program models, including co-operatives, Solarize group purchasing, and solar concierge initiatives
  • Success stories highlighting how local communities are making solar projects work
  • Collaborative discussion to gather ideas and feedback for advancing community solar

Cas Bijlholt – iChoosr

Cas is the CEO at iChoosr. The mission of iChoosr is to accelerate the energy transition. They do this through their residential group buying model. With over 250,000 sustainable energy installations (rooftop solar, home batteries and heat pumps) on the books, they are a great example of the Solrize model.

Bert Weichel – SES Solar Cooperative

Bert has worked as a consulting ecologist and as an environmental science instructor at the University of Saskatchewan, and has been active on the boards of several environmental NGOs over the past four decades.  A member/shareholder of the SES Solar Co-operative since its inception, he currently serves as secretary and is one of two SES directors appointed to the Solar Co-op’s board.
